BITEdown Collective is a Brooklyn-based company that incorporates the creative practices of artists in film, music and dance to produce layered multi-media performances. The mission of the collective is to facilitate artistic collaboration and generate environments in which their works live. They propagate artistic alliances to construct alternate realities.
CRACKED TEETH is their newest endeavor. The work is a study of the grieving process. Asking how does one grieve the loss of love through parts of self and parts of past selves? It is a study of how these emotions are planted in our body and where they ultimately take root. The work is a projection of the collective mind as it pieces itself back together.
That’s when we realized, at the end of it, all we have are these
Cracked Teeth
Mangled and raw from centuries of holding on to you.
Wishing you stay
Grappling, gnashing
Knowing we would never get back to you.
After all our gifts of love all you gave us were these
Cracked Teeth
A mangled menagerie of thinning tusks
Tethered to a heart to keep her beating as a new piece shed from her
Cracked Teeth
Grieving in the grotesque
We wanted to make a shrine to each moment we gave a piece to you
A soliloquy of shards
Shattered pieces of a whole
Person
Thank you for leaving us with these
Cracked Teeth
