Programs Manager


Status:                 Part time, permanent

Position Summary
The Programs Manager is responsible for overseeing and producing CPR’s public programs, artistic residencies, and other opportunities for artists at CPR. Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, the Programs Manager envisions and organizes year-round programming, and is CPR’s producer, working closely and creatively with artists and guest curators to realize their work, and supports CPR’s commitment to experimental, risk-taking approaches to performance practice. The Programs Manager also supports the promotion of CPR’s programs and outreach to artists, managing marketing and communications.

Schedule
The Programs Manager may work up to 34 hours per week, with a flexible schedule to support other creative or professional commitments, and around CPR’s ebb and flow of programming. The position may work a hybrid remote/in-person schedule as desired, with required on-site work to support artists and programs. The position will be assigned a MacBook Air laptop, and may be reimbursed for a monthly Metrocard.

Supervision
The Programs Manager reports to the Executive Director, works closely with the Production and Facilities Manager in producing CPR programs, and hires and manages contract Event Managers for public programs. The Programs Manager is the main point-of-contact with artists and guest curators for public programs and residencies.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to envision and organize CPR’s year-round public programming, residencies, and other opportunities for artists and artistic development..

  • Oversees annual open call and panel-reviewed selection process for CPR Artists-in-Residence (AiRs), including selection of panelists, and is the main point-of-contact for artists during their residency.

  • Produces CPR public programs, including series such as OPEN AiR, OPEN STUDIOS, OPEN LAB, OPEN STAGE, OPEN DOOR, and other events, co-presentations, and partnerships.

  • With the Executive Director, implements strategies and initiatives that support CPR as a just and equal creative environment that is aesthetically, racially, and ethnically diverse, inclusive of bodies of all backgrounds and abilities, committed to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ justice, and supportive of a broad range of embodied modes of expression.

  • Actively builds and maintains relationships with CPR artists, organizational partners, and other community partners in order to envision and propose unique programs, events, and co-presentations.

  • Implements marketing and communications strategies to promote CPR programs and opportunities for artists, including e-blasts, social media, and other online and printed marketing.

  • Collects marketing information for all CPR Presents programs and writes program descriptions, season statements, and press releases.

  • Hires and manages photographers for CPR Presents programs, and organizes and distributes both photo and video documentation to artists.

  • Drafts and distributes contracts for CPR Presents programs, Artists-in-Residence, and Technical Residents.

  • Supports the Executive Director with producing and communications for the @CPR Performance Series, a performance rental opportunity that is part of CPR’s Subsidized Space Rental Program.

  • Creates and manages event pages on CPR website, billing and program information, Eventbrite ticketing, distribution of audience surveys, and tracks ticket sales and audience statistics.

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to develop the annual programming budget, and tracks program expenses and artist fee payments.

  • Attends weekly staff meetings, and participates in production meetings and site visits, as necessary, with artists, curators, and event participants.

  • In coordination with the Production and Facilities Manager, facilitates and is present for technical rehearsals, public programs, and related events.

  • Hires, trains, schedules, and manages Event Managers for all public programs.

  • With the Executive Director, plans and produces CPR’s annual Spring Benefit, and other special events and opportunities for audience and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in performance programming, producing, curating, performing arts management, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to NYC’s contemporary dance and performance community, and experience and interest in working closely with artists across a broad range of artistic practice and discipline.

  • Basic knowledge of live performance production and audio-visual technology.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent writing and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write critically about art and performance.

  • Demonstrated strength in managing time, completing tasks, and being proactive and accountable in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative setting.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs, and other standard office procedures and programs.

  • Experience with social media marketing, video editing, and/or graphic design is a plus.
